Three Retracings presents a body of sound works exploring sensory and temporal tracings of urban development in Narrm Melbourne, Kaifeng and Suzhou from 2016 to 2019. Returning, relistening and recording locations in each city over this period, nine works form a set of sonic relations between neighbourhoods in urban transformation. Three Retracings interrogates the contentious role of the field recordist as an itinerant documenter, archive-maker, visitor and tourist through attending to the impact of accumulative listening in different contexts. The publication places three listenings in conversation to probe the ways in which they shift, append and diverge through revisitation.

I acknowledge the Kaurna People as the traditional owners of the unceded land on which I live and work. I pay my respect to their elders past, present and emerging.
